Biomedical Electronics Lab Technology

Mixed signal integrated circuits are an ideal technology for digitizing a large amount of information at a cellular spatial resolution, but the electrons and photons that these circuits measure are of limited interest biologically. In order to measure gene expression, chemical concentration, and protein-protein interactions, small probes are used that can move within the biological system and transduce these biological signals into light. The probes used in this lab use fluorescence, bioluminescence, chemiluminescence, or up-conversion (a multiphoton process.)
